FAQ
  • Q: What is the best way to improve my English?

  • A: The best way to improve your English is through one-on-one or small group lessons with excellent tutors. Our tutors have been thoroughly trained to help you improve your speaking and writing skills by focusing on all of the major facets of everyday English: pronunciation, grammar, slang, and industry-specific language. We also address several other significant yet often overlooked aspects of English conversation, such as appropriate email language, internet lingo, and neologisms. We know that to improve your English, it's important to develop confidence. In order to do that, you must be able to identify and fix your errors so that you can speak with precision and clarity. We will work with you to gradually develop this invaluable skill, and we are confident that you will enjoy the process.

  • Q: How do Superior English Tutoring classes work?

  • A: We customize a curriculum for you based on your skill level, interests, goals, and the amount of time you're able to study per week. In most cases, that involves you doing most of the speaking and us doing most of the listening and note-taking in your lessons. After every Superior English Tutoring class, you will receive at least one detailed page of notes that will guide you on your path toward holistic English improvement. As the specifics of this process vary from person to person, the best way to learn more is to click the link above to schedule a free 45-minute trial meeting with us. We'd love to meet you!

  • Q: How do I set up my class schedule?

  • A: You can schedule your classes online. We are also happy to help with scheduling via email. Just contact info@superiorenglishtutoring.com with any questions.

  • Q: What happens if I miss a class? What is your cancellation policy?

  • A: Our cancellation policy is simple: you can cancel or change the time of any class 48 hours in advance of the established meeting time; any change or cancellation made less than 48 hours in advance will result in a lost, non-refundable class. Whenever you schedule a class online, you will receive a confirmation email. Don't delete that email! It contains a link you can use to change or cancel your class. If you cancel your class more than 48 hours in advance, you may either move that class to another time or receive a refund. In the unlikely event that a tutor cancels a class, you will be given a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule at a time that is convenient for you. We offer a one-time exception to this rule once per year, meaning you can miss one class per year with no penalty.

  • Q: Do I have to use all of my classes within one month of purchase?

  • A: The short answer is yes, but we know that life gets crazy, so we try to be flexible. Maintaining a fixed schedule makes everyone's lives easier; however, tweaking the schedule as necessary each week as long as it's done 48 hours in advance of your first class is not a problem. For example, if you decide to take two 60-minute classes per week for one month and you know that there is one week in that month when you will be unable to meet, you can move a class from one week to another within that month to make sure you don't lose any classes.

  • Q: Where is your office?

  • A:We're located at 745 Atlantic Avenue in downtown Boston directly across the street from the South Station bus terminal. Our office is a two-minute walk from the South Station red line T stop. (We call our subway here in Boston the "T.") It is easy to get to, easy to find, and in a safe part of the city. Here is our full address:
    745 Atlantic Avenue
    4th Floor

           Boston, MA 02111

  • Q: Is it possible to have in-person classes in other locations like Cambridge, Brookline, or Lexington?

  • A: Yes. Additional fees apply.

  • Q: What’s better, a class in person or a class on Skype? Is the price the same?

  • A: They are equally effective to help you strengthen your English skills. The prices are the same.

  • Q: How do I pay?

  • A: You can pay through PayPal, bank transfer, check, or cash. If you are unfamiliar with PayPal, it is a secure and easy-to-use online payment solution that is accepted by most countries around the world. If this option seems like the best fit for you, we will email you specific instructions about how to use PayPal.

  • Q: How long does it take to get a paper edited? How much does it cost?

  • A: If we receive your paper on a weekday and it is less than 5,000 words, we will return your paper within 36 hours. If you send it on a Saturday or a Sunday and it is less than 5,000 words, it will take 48 hours. Depending on what you need edited, the price ranges from five cents per word to ten cents per word. Please contact us for more information about editing requests exceeding 5,000 words. All Superior English Tutoring students may receive up to 500 words of free editing each week they have at least one class.

  • Q: What if my English speaking ability is only at a beginner level, can you still help me improve?

  • A: Yes. We are happy to meet anyone for a free 45-minute trial meeting to assess your English and determine a course for improvement.

  • Q: How long will it take for my English to get better?

  • A: Everyone learns at a different rate. From our experience, you will likely begin to notice considerable improvement after 25 classes.

  • Q: How long should I study with Superior English Tutoring?

  • A: It depends on your goals. Some students who have a specific goal, such as reaching a certain score on a test, may find that they only need to work with us for a few months. Most of our students are focused on becoming confident, eloquent English speakers. This is definitely an attainable goal, but it requires hard work, serious dedication, and typically at least 75 classes. Many of our master's and Ph.D. students have benefited tremendously from supplementing their full-time education with our classes for the duration of their programs.

  • Q: Will I have the same tutor for all of my classes or work with different tutors?

  • A: It's up to you! Our view is that working with multiple tutors is better preparation for real-world experiences, which inevitably involve many different people. But we also understand that meeting a new tutor every class might be uncomfortable. What we've found to be the optimal balance is rotating tutors on a monthly basis. That way, over time you can get to know our different tutors and also benefit from their respective teaching skills. However, if you feel that your needs are better suited to working with a single teacher, we can definitely arrange that.
